Description
Demonstrates proper Phlebotomy technique while performing venipunctures and skin punctures on newborns to geriatric patients. Perform Administrative Assistant Duties using Powerchart and Pathnet (register patients).
Responsibilities include: specimen collection, computer use, telephone communication, courier service, and have knowledge of the terminology of tests ordered in the lab.

Responsibilities
- • Draws blood competently with as little discomfort as possible
- • Identifies the patient (Name and DOB)- comparing patients information on the specimen labels to the patients identification band or verbal response from the patient before specimen collection is performed
- • Displays courteous, professional manner towards patients, co-workers, nursing and medical staff
- • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patients safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors
- • Label test tubes properly, is knowledgeable about which color tube to use and the volume of blood needed
- • Follows standard precautions, policies and procedures for the Clinical Lab and hospital, reviews policies and procedures regularly
- • Disposes all needles, heel stick and finger stick devices in a sharps container
- • Cleans and maintains work area, stock supplies in phlebotomist area and phlebotomist trays, order supplies when needed
- • Seeks guidance and direction as necessary
- • Demonstrates the value of team concept on a consistent basis
- • Maintains urine drug screen manual and supplies, collect drug screens as needed
- • Operate multi-line phone system in a high volume work area while assisting patients.
- • Operate copy machine, fax machine, scanners, multi-line telephone system, and centrifuge
- • Intermediate computer skills (typing), access and order lab tests through Department Order Entry and Powerchart, Register patients through Powerchart and Pathnet, Perform laboratory Information System functions with minimal assistance using Powerchart and Pathnet, such as logging in specimens, manually expediting results, order results viewer, collection inquiry, and Access Management applications (imaging only, lab quick reg., register patient, and view encounter)
- • Operate courier service in a timely manner by foot or vehicle during any type of weather : to include physician office rounds (AM and PM), and keep accurate record of all specimens collected during rounds.
Work Hours
Days, M-F and rotating holidays and weekends, earliest start 5am, latest to end 6:30PM
Qualifications
- • High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED), required.
- • Phlebotomy experience preferred
- • BLS, required.
- • Valid, unexpired Driver's License, required.
- • Current Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) meeting the acceptable guidelines as outlined in the Drive Safe Policy, upon hire and continued throughout duration of employment in any position that requires driving, required.
- • Proof of current motor vehicle insurance, required.
Skills
- • Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
- • Basic computer knowledge is required.
